In Bari, my hometown, our Saint Patron is St. Nicholas and we celebrate this festivity on the 6 of December and on 8 of May. St. Nicholas was a bishop who lived in the fourth century in Myra (now Turkey). He was very rich and also very kind because he helped the poors, giving secrets gifts to people who needed it.
He helped three sisters who didn’t have enought money for a dowry, so they coudn’t get married; one night Nicholas, secretely, gave the money for the girls’s dowry from the chimney into a stocking.
For this Nicholas became the saint patron of childrens and later became Santa Claus.
The bones were stolen by some mercant sailors from Bari and they are now preserved in “Basilica di San Nicola” in Bari.
If you pass from my town don’t miss this church.
